Further digging revealed that most Bordoodle breeders were on the West Coast which was a deal-breaker for us living in southern Ontario as we wanted to first check out the puppy and his family before bringing this new, life-long pal into our family. The few breeders in Ontario were breeding Standard size Poodles with Border Collies and the resulting offspring would generally weigh upwards of 60 lbs when full-grown, which was a much larger pet than we wanted. In the end we decided to play the long game and found a beautiful pure-bred Mini-Poodle with the future goal of breeding our own Bordoodle to be small enough to comfortably fit in our home...a
Mini-Bordoodle.
Zoe, our
Mini-Poodle, has been a terrific companion for all of us. She is affectionate and calm indoors although very athletic when we take her to the park. She loves to sprint after a tennis ball or frisbee and waits gleefully each afternoon for her daily romp. Her intelligence is a frequent source of surprise and delight. It took us a few months to recognize her extensive vocabulary, a range of different, mostly single, short barks; eg. our friend at the door, her friend at the door (another Border Collie `Beau`), want to go outside, want to come inside, food/water bowl is empty, alert! stranger outside..... She has bonded with each member of our extended family and has joyfully welcomed former friends even after not seeing them in over two years!
